Instructions

  • Take your slices of bread, and use a knife to cut a "window" out of the center. Please note that the bread should still be intact on all edges with a "hole/window" in the central area. You could use a cookie shape to create a fun "window" area for your child.
  • Take your egg and add salt and pepper to it as desired.
  • In a skillet, over medium heat, drop in a dollop of ghee to grease the pan.
  • Gently place in the bread slices, and let them toast/brown slightly on one side. (On a standard-size skillet pan, the three slices should be able to fit together).
  • Flip them over, and then pour in the egg into the missing "hole". Allow it to cook on one side, and then turn the breads over so that both sides of the egg can cook through.
  • Remove and serve immediately.

Notes

This recipe is what one would traditionally call an egg-in-a-hole. We tested this recipe on our daughter, Zahra, who loves the different shapes her "cutout" toast arrives in each morning, be it butterflies, flowers, or hearts.
