28 oz compliant canned crushed tomatoes (eg, Cento)

¼ cup olive oil

1 small onion, diced

4 cloves crushed garlic

1 TBSP chopped basil leaves (or 1 tsp dried basil)

2 TBSP chopped fresh parsley (or 2 tsp dried parsley)

2 tsp dried oregano

½ tsp sea salt

¼ tsp pepper

½ tsp dried Italian seasonings

2 tsp (10 ml) dried oregano

½ tsp (2.5 ml) sea salt

¼ tsp (1.25 ml) pepper

½ tsp (2.5 ml) dried Italian seasonings

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil over medium heat in a large saucepan
  • Add diced onion and saute until tender (4-5 minutes)
  • Add crushed garlic and saute for 30 seconds
  • Add tomato puree, crushed tomatoes, basil, parsley, and seasonings.
  • Bring to a boil while stirring occasionally.
  • Reduce heat and add bay leaf.
  • Simmer for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove bay leaf.
